A new program designed to address career awareness and preparation issues for the near-term job seeker – from late high school students through adults. Ready for Industry (RFI) bridges two gaps that exist in the preparation of many potential skilled workers:
- What industry pathway do I want to pursue?
- What is the basic info that employers want me to know that I might not learn in school?
Ready for Industry helps prospective workers understand what the most in-demand industries are like – the careers, businesses, and processes that make up the industry. Additionally, RFI helps the prospective worker learn about the essential processes in each industry. After these courses, the new employee is more ready to be productive on the first day of work!
RFI provides courses,15-20 hours each, for five of the highest-demand industries:
- Information Technology
All the Tools You Need to Succeed
Ready for Industry is a series of online, self-paced courses with lessons and activities that provide actual learning to the individual.
Businesses often find new employees to be unprepared for the workplace. Many schools and colleges provide technical training on specific skills, but students still don’t see the big picture of the common workplace terminology, issues and processes.
RFI creates a bridge between standard K-12 education and the knowledge needed for success in industry. It covers the gaps in common technical training and the industry and workplace competencies in tiers 3 and 4 of the workplace competency model.
For each of the 5 highest-demand industries, RFI provides self-paced, online instruction on:
- Introduction to the Industry
- What it is like to Work in the Industry
- Industry Terminology and Common Practices
- Career Opportunities and Descriptions
- Current Issues and Trends in the Industry
- Career Pathways, Education and Certifications in the Industry
- Workplace Expectations in Industry
This knowledge will make your job candidates more prepared for the workplace.
NOCTI's Ready for Industry Certification Exams
Coming Later This Year!
The National Occupational Competency Testing Institute (NOCTI) has worked to create industry-specific standardized assessments aligned to the five industries for which Ready for Industry offers courses – construction, healthcare, information technology, logistics, manufacturing. NOCTI has validated each exam with test takers, ensuring that the assessments are a reliable measure of knowledge.
These five 50 question exams provide a standardized assessment designed to evaluate individuals’ awareness of in-demand industries and jobs, best practices, trends and skills requirements, which serves as tangible proof of their knowledge, providing a competitive edge in the job market.
With the addition of these standardized assessments to RFI’s best-in-class courses it also enables the use of Workforce and Innovation Opportunity Act (WIOA) funds for RFI – requirements and funding under WIOA can vary by state and program.
