Speaker

Rebecca Giedosh-Ruge
Mat-Su Borough School District, Alaska
District-Wide eDynamics/APEX educator

During her 25 years in the culinary industry, Ms. Rebecca Giedosh-Ruge has found that she always gravitated towards teaching her peers and staff the “how’s” and more importantly, “why”, they proceed with techniques in the professional kitchen.

When the opportunity presented itself to teach at Alaska Job Corp in Palmer, Alaska, she jumped at the chance. Like a spark to the ovens, her passions were ignited! This job led her to make many different types of industry connections; working with community members, feeding state legislators, even orchestrating and producing large dinners for visiting US Department heads. She did it all!

Through these connections she learned about the Mat-Su Borough’s Career and Technical High School. The transition to public education was a natural one, especially after working with the Culinary department’s competitive ProStart team. For two consecutive years, they brought teams to compete on the national platform, representing Alaska at NPSI (National ProStart Invitational) where students earned college scholarships for team cooking competition/skills work.

Working with students and being able to relive the “once-again-new” found joys of culinary discovery has been her greatest passion. During her time in the teaching kitchens she was nominated for the BP Educator of Excellence award along with earning local accolades for working in conjunction with their mayor to cater Alaska Governor Bill Walker’s Inaugural Ball.

When transitioning again to remote education during the unexpected pandemic, she learned yet another medium to make the direct translation of her culinary passion accessible to students. eDynamic Learning has allowed her to share her years of experience, remotely, during the most unprecedented of times and taught her how to adapt yet again to new challenges that are presented. She couldn’t be more grateful or excited to mentor, coach and spark new fires in the bellies of the future’s chefs of the world!
